PE at Bearbrook is taught by a combination of class teachers, qualified sports coaches and a professional dance teacher. Children have equal opportunities to take part in a range of sports and physical activities within a nurturing environment. Children are encouraged to participate in exercise throughout the day, through walking the daily mile, PE lessons, clubs, outdoor learning and lunch provision.

Our PE curriculum is structured to provide children with a range of sports experiences which teach and develop physical skills through competitive, team and individual sports. Children develop a range of fundamental skills such as agility, balance, coordination and fitness. These are taught using PE equipment appropriate for the age and needs of the pupils. In year 4, children have a series of structured swimming lessons taught by qualified swimming coaches.

Through our provision, all children are able to take part and those with additional needs are supported. Activities may need to be adapted, with the aim for all children to thrive and succeed, gaining knowledge, confidence and motivation.

We teach the National Curriculum, supported by clear skills and progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on every year and planned effectively to maximise learning for all children.
