Having implemented the above for the past 20 months we have seen many positives in Phonics at Bearbrook: staff have had targeted Phonics training to ensure the teaching of Phonics is consistently good; there is a new found emphasis on the teaching of Phonics in Early Years and KS1 and staff at Bearbrook understand the importance that high quality Phonics lessons have; there is a teacher leading the Phonics provision with a good understanding of the strengths and areas for development in Phonics at Bearbrook; children are reading books that match their Phonics ability meaning their reading attainment and progress is increasing; early writing is improving; we have also seen improved Phonics screening data with 76% of children in Year 1 passing the PSC in June 2022. This was the highest PSC result in all of the Great Learners Trust schools.
