  • Write a recount of an event

English

 

We are going to be reading, retelling and writing a recount and nonsensse poetry.

 

During our English lessons we are going to be learning about:

  • Identify features of a recount

  • Plan and write recounts about our class visits

  • Reading poetry

  • Writing and performing own poetry in groups

  • Creative journal writing

Spelling:

  • Spell words containing each of the 40+ phonemes already taught

  • Write from memory, simple sentences dictated from the teacher that include words that include the GPC’s and common exception words taught so far

 

Handwriting:

  • Sit correctly at table, holding a pencil comfortably and correctly; begin to form lower case letters in the correct direction, starting and finishing in the right place; form capital letters.

 

Composition:

  • Saying, composing, sequencing and re-reading

 

Vocab, Grammar and Punctuation:

  • Finger spaces, conjunctions, capital letters and full stops, capital letters for nouns

 

Maths

 

We are going to be learning how to:

 

  • Add and subtract 1 and 2 digit numbers to 20

  • Solve 1 step problems involving addition and subtraction.

Art & Design

Generating Ideas: The starting point for the project will be the painting The Starry Night. The children will learn about Vincent van Gogh and his work they will use their imaginations to develop the original painting into a work of their own. Have the opportunity to communicate their ideas using a variety of methods, including drawing and making models.

Art and Design Making/Technique: Explore different methods and materials as ideas develop. Draw lines of different sizes and thickness. Colour neatly following the lines. Use thick and thin brushes. Mix primary colours to make secondary. Add white to colours to make tints and dark toned colours to lighter colours to make tones.

Design and Technology Making/Technique: develop ideas by shaping materials and putting together components. Plan by suggesting what to do next as their ideas develop, select tools, techniques and materials for making their product from a range suggested by the teacher, explore the sensory qualities of materials, measure, mark out, cut and shape a range of materials, assemble, join and combine materials and components and use simple finishing techniques to improve the appearance of their product, using a range of equipment.

 

Knowledge: the children will learn about the artist Vincent van Gogh and about the type of paintings he created. They will learn about the toy used in Victorian times and that it is creating an optical illusion.

 

Evaluation: Have the opportunity to reflect upon their own work, and use comparisons with the work of others (pupils and artists) to identify how to improve.

Participate in team games, developing simple tactics for attacking and defending.

 

In all areas of physical health and well being we will be exploring movement and linking this to our Science learning.
